How much does remodelling jewellery cost?

If you have decided to remodel your jewellery, you might be wondering how much your project will cost.

It’s one of our most asked questions- and we would love to help you know more, so read on to find out about the costs of remodelling jewellery.

Let’s assume you have your own gold and your own diamonds/gemstones. You like our style of designs and hope to have your materials crafted into a similar piece.

Many people ask if they have enough gold to create what they want- usually, our clients visit with more than enough gold to make a ring. To create one of our styles, we typically require around 5g of your gold.

Then, if you would like us to re-set diamonds or gems into the new ring, we will supply new gold for the settings and attach your own gold onto the new setting which contains your diamonds and gems.

The reason we opt to use new gold for the setting, is because we can achieve a more precise outcome using CAD- have the setting cast, then the sizes are perfect for your stones to be set.

To remodel your own gold and diamonds into one ring, as well as supply new metal for the settings would be around £1500.00 for 9ct yellow gold (see image one for example).

Please note this is a guide price. After your consultation our designers will provide a quote based on your individual requirements.

Various factors which would influence this price are-

  • If you would like to upgrade from yellow gold to platinum, include a platinum detail (see last two images) or are remodelling 18ct gold, rather than 9ct gold.

  • If you would like to include a new gemstone such as diamond, ruby etc. to mark a special occasion

  • If your chosen design is particularly complex

  • If you would prefer a heavier style of ring or a bangle/bracelet, and don’t have enough of your own gold to achieve this, we would then be required to supply additional material.

  • If you have a large amount of stones to re-set (see last image).

These factors will all increase the cost of your commission. However, previously we mentioned many clients visiting with more than enough gold for their project. This can help decrease the cost of your commission as we can credit you for the value of your remaining scrap gold.

Bespoke & remodelling work can, sometimes, cost more than ‘ready-to-wear’ or high street jewellery because:

  • A high level of craftsmanship is required to achieve the specific needs of a remodelled or bespoke piece

  • Bespoke jewellery is very customisable, and as such, it will be handmade by an experienced jeweller or individually cast, which incurs more cost than mass casting.
